Baustelbar #3

Thanks to everyone who came to Baustelbar in March and participated in the Berliner Hocker workshop with Le Van Bo! We continue this Thursday with Baustelbar #3:

Baustelbar is a night of short presentations, show and tell workshops and social interaction, once a month at betahaus Berlin (Café and Open Design City).

Timetable:

19 h: Come in, have a beer, interact at the bazaar
20 h: Introduction of all projects, four short presentations (10 mins each)
21 h: More beer, more interaction, workshops

Speakers:

You:

The presentation slots will be filled at the beginning of the event, barcamp-style. Talk about your project, either finished, in progress or planned or enlighten us about your work related to ODC's areas of interest, such as tinkering/hacking, creativity, upcycling, crafts and arts, open design etc.

The bazaar will be your show and tell area with lots of tables. Show your project, invite spectators to become active or build something during the night. Tables will be given to anyone interested. (Make sure you arrive at 18 h for setup.)

Of course, you can be both a speaker and have a bazaar table at Baustelbar, so you can talk about the ideas and specifics of your projects in front of the audience first and then invite people to have a closer look.

If you are shy, it's okay to just be a spectator. There will always be a next time for your to present. :)

If you already know that you want to talk and/or show your project, please let us now so we can plan ahead: Send Philip an e-mail at philip@bausteln.de. If you can't make it on the 21st but would love to do something the next time, let us know as well.

Daniel vom Think Camp schreibt:

Introduction to Processing

Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to create images, animations, and interactions.
Initially developed to serve as a software sketchbook and to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context, Processing also has evolved into a tool for generating finished professional work.
Today, there are tens of thousands of students, artists, designers, researchers, and hobbyists who use Processing for learning, prototyping, and production.

Jesse Scott has used Processing to create live visuals, light up large led matrices, drive laser cutters, control 3D puppets, and make custom Android applications.
Over the course of three hours, he will give a hands-on introduction and overview of the basic concepts involved in Processing, focusing on visual production and basic interaction.
Participants will leave with several examples showcasing how to achieve sophisticated visual and interactive design projects with very little code.

Please pre-register with jesse at memelab dot ca.
Workshop limited to 12 people.
No previous programming experience required.
Participants encouraged to bring their own laptop.
€15 for non-members, and €5 for members.

Radical Vokü

We propose an experimental co-cooking night including the likes of ginger, bamboo, wasabi, turmeric, lotus, hops and asparagus - all rhizomes, also know as radicals, or non-hierarchial plants.

We'll invent some interesting combinations and eat rhizomatic dishes, as a collaborative exchange.  Of course, non-rhizomatic ingredients will be allowed ... rice might be nice, lettuce, or whatever comes to mind.  Some basic ingredients and ideas will be available, but feel free to bring whatever inspires you.  Should be tasty.

Dingfabrik meets ODC: Concrete Lamp stands

Beton Lampenfuß / Concrete Lampstand

Dingfabrik are coming to Berlin in April, and thought it would be nice to run a workshop which will really complement our lampshade production.

Description EN:
This workshop is all about concrete: Come over to ODC and built yourself a concrete lamp stand or bring your own ideas!

We'll use old plastic bottles and tetra packs as molds (please bring your own along), that we can shape with strings and clamps. The lampstand will be supplied with cable, swith and a bulb sockel, that allows to add a standard lampshade later.

If you like to create your own idea with concrete, you can bring along your own form (plastic forms work best) or built your individual mold from styropor during the workshop.

The objects must dry for at least 24 hours. You can come by e.g. thursday night to unmold, connect cables and take your finished object home.

If you like to build a lampstand: Please sign up so we can bring enough material.

Admission:
ODC Members: free
ODC Guests: 5 €

Material:
Lampstand: 12 €
Your ideas: 5 €

-----
Description DE:

Teilnahme:
ODC Mitglieder: kostenlos
ODC Gäste: 5 €

Materialkosten:
Lampenfuß: 12 €
Freie Ideen: 5 €

Enquiry Hour

We get a lot of calls from journalists, researchers, students, all wanting to know more about this wonderful city of ours. But if we spend all our time answering questions, then we will become all theory and no practice. To this end we would like to announce the hour of enquiry. Bring your questions all at once, and listen to what the others ask.

Enquiry hour will be on 25/02/2011 at 13.00 and will continue on the last Friday of each Month at the same time.

If you participate we also will ask you to update our wiki at the same time, to assist with future questions.

So if you have enquiries, you can join in via skype or in the real world. Simply mail me with your name (and if necessary skype details).
